Mechanical Instrument Services
Since 1939 the facilities that comprise Mechanical Instrument Services (MIS) have played a critical role in supporting the research and teaching missions of Indiana University, in particular the College of Arts and Science. MIS was founded to enable users in realizing their visions for unique and innovative research instruments, an undertaking that continues to this day. Using a blend of traditional and cutting-edge technologies, knowledgeable MIS staff are well-equipped to handle the requirements of creating and supporting mechanical hardware for scientific research and instruction. Devices produced by MIS have assisted IU students and faculty in making significant, visible contributions to research from tabletop experiments to various national and international laboratories. With several convenient locations on the Bloomington campus, MIS can quickly respond to the mechanical instrument needs in ways that simply would not be possible by relying on outside sources.
